Why do you say crashing a plane into the Capitol (pre-911) is absurd?


DCA is maybe 3 miles from the Capitol. If a suicide pilot wanted to divert there to crash, it would take less than a minute. I'm sure that we have things in place now (post-911) that could down any such attempt, and merely wipe out the Smithsonians and a few inconsequential tourists, but I am going to need to be educated as to why that would be absurd pre-911. The idea of using a jet as a suicide weapon sure seemed prescient to me.
